About Tiny Trailblazers
Family travel guides crafted by parents, for parents
Our Story
Tiny Trailblazers started the way most good ideas do โ out of pure frustration. When our oldest was two years old, we planned what we thought would be a simple weekend getaway to San Diego. We booked a trendy downtown hotel, mapped out a packed sightseeing itinerary, and assumed everything would just fall into place. It did not. The hotel had no cribs available. The restaurant we had reservations at did not have a kids' menu or high chairs. The "must-see" attraction we had circled on our list turned out to have a three-hour wait in the blazing sun with zero shade. By the end of day one, our toddler was melting down, we were exhausted, and we found ourselves eating emergency gas station snacks in a rental car wondering where we went wrong.
The problem was not that San Diego is a bad destination for families โ it is actually one of the best. The problem was that none of the travel guides we had read were written with young children in mind. Every recommendation assumed you were an adult couple or a group of friends. Nobody mentioned that a particular museum had a fantastic toddler play area on the second floor, or that a certain neighborhood had three parks within walking distance of family-friendly lunch spots. That information simply was not out there, at least not all in one place.
So we started taking notes. Detailed notes. On every trip after that, we wrote down which hotels actually had pack-and-plays and blackout curtains, which restaurants welcomed kids with open arms (and which ones gave us the look), which attractions had short lines in the mornings, and which parks had clean restrooms and shaded picnic areas. We shared these notes with friends who had little ones, and they started sending us their own tips in return. Before we knew it, we had binders full of family travel intel โ and Tiny Trailblazers was born.
What started as a personal project has grown into a comprehensive family travel resource that thousands of parents rely on every month. We have visited every destination we write about. We have pushed strollers through every neighborhood we recommend. We have tested every "kid-friendly" claim firsthand, because we know from experience that what works for a couple in their twenties does not always work for a family with a three-year-old and a seven-year-old in tow.
Our Mission
Our mission is simple: help families with young children, ages two through ten, discover incredible travel adventures without the stress, guesswork, or meltdowns. We believe that traveling with kids should be joyful, not just survivable. Every single guide on Tiny Trailblazers is curated specifically with toddler-friendly and kid-friendly options in mind, because we know that when the kids are happy, everyone is happy.
We also believe that amazing family trips should not require a massive budget. That is why every guide includes a range of options, from splurge-worthy experiences to completely free activities that kids absolutely love. We provide honest assessments of what is worth the money and what you can skip, because we have been the family standing in front of a forty-dollar-per-person tourist trap thinking "we could have just gone to the playground."
Our promise to you: Every recommendation on Tiny Trailblazers has been tested by real families with real kids. We do not accept payment for reviews, and we will always tell you if something is not worth the hype โ even if it is popular on social media.
What We Cover
Tiny Trailblazers offers in-depth family travel guides that go far beyond a simple list of attractions. Here is what you will find on our site:
- 32+ City Guides Across the US โ From major destinations like Orlando, San Diego, and New York City to hidden gems like Asheville, Sedona, and Savannah, each guide provides a complete family travel blueprint. We cover what to see, where to eat, where to stay, and how to get around with little ones.
- Hotel and Accommodation Reviews โ We evaluate hotels and vacation rentals based on what matters most to families: cribs and rollaway beds, suite-style layouts, proximity to attractions, pools, breakfast options, and overall kid-friendliness. No more showing up to a "family hotel" that clearly was not designed for families.
- Restaurant Guides for Families โ Every city guide includes a curated list of restaurants where kids are genuinely welcome. We note whether there are kids' menus, high chairs, outdoor seating, quick service options, and allergy-friendly choices. We also highlight local spots that most tourists miss.
- Budget-Friendly Tips โ Free museum days, discount passes, off-season travel windows, affordable dining strategies, and creative ways to save money without sacrificing the quality of your trip. We break down approximate costs so you can plan a realistic budget before you book.
- Road Trip Advice โ Detailed road trip routes with family-tested pit stops, snack strategies, entertainment ideas for the car, and tips for managing naps and bedtime routines on the road. We have driven thousands of miles with kids in the backseat, and we share everything we have learned.
- Packing Lists and Travel Checklists โ Age-specific packing guides that cover everything from diaper bag essentials for toddlers to activity kits for school-age kids. Our lists are printable, organized by category, and updated seasonally so you never forget sunscreen in July or snow boots in December.
- Seasonal and Holiday Travel Guides โ Special guides for traveling during spring break, summer vacation, Thanksgiving, and the winter holidays, including how to navigate crowds, find seasonal events, and keep costs under control during peak travel periods.
Why Trust Tiny Trailblazers
The internet is full of travel content, much of it generated by people who have never actually visited the places they recommend โ or who visited once as adults and assumed it would be the same experience with kids. Tiny Trailblazers is different, and here is why:
- Firsthand Family Experience โ Every destination guide is based on actual trips taken by families with young children. We do not write about places we have not been, and we do not recommend activities we have not tried with our own kids. If we say a museum is great for toddlers, it is because we brought toddlers there and watched them have a blast.
- Regularly Updated Content โ Travel information goes stale quickly. Restaurants close, attractions change their hours, hotels renovate. We revisit and update our guides throughout the year to make sure the information you are reading is accurate and current. Every guide shows its last-updated date so you always know how fresh the content is.
- Community-Driven Tips โ Our readers are an incredible source of knowledge. We actively incorporate tips, corrections, and suggestions from the thousands of families in our community. When a reader tells us about an amazing playground we missed or warns us that a hotel has gone downhill, we verify the information and update our guides accordingly.
- No Pay-for-Play Reviews โ We do not accept payment from hotels, restaurants, or attractions in exchange for positive reviews. Our recommendations are based solely on the quality of the experience for families. When we partner with brands, we disclose it clearly, and it never influences our editorial opinions.
- Practical Over Pretty โ We care more about giving you genuinely useful information than creating Instagram-worthy content. Our guides focus on the details that actually matter when you are traveling with young kids: Are there changing tables in the restrooms? Is the parking lot stroller-accessible? Can you bring your own snacks inside? These are the questions we answer because these are the questions we ask ourselves as parents.
Meet the Team
Behind Tiny Trailblazers is a small but dedicated team of family travel enthusiasts. We are parents first and travel writers second, which means we understand the realities of exploring new places with kids who need naps, snacks, and the occasional bribe to get back in the car seat.
Our team includes parents with children ranging from toddlers to ten-year-olds, which means we can offer perspective across the full spectrum of "traveling with kids" challenges. Some of us are road trip warriors who think nothing of a twelve-hour drive. Others specialize in flying with little ones and have mastered the art of navigating airports with a stroller, a car seat, and three carry-on bags. Together, we bring a diverse set of experiences and travel styles to every guide we publish.
Every piece of content on Tiny Trailblazers goes through a thorough research and vetting process. We cross-reference our personal experiences with current reviews, local insights, and community feedback to make sure our recommendations hold up. If something does not meet our standards, it does not make it onto the site โ no matter how popular it might be elsewhere.
We are also lifelong learners when it comes to family travel. We attend travel conferences, connect with family travel communities across the country, and constantly seek out new destinations and experiences to share with our readers. Our goal is not just to maintain the guides we have, but to keep expanding our coverage so that wherever your family wants to go, Tiny Trailblazers has you covered.
